Wii DBTS

Postby shui » 06 Feb 2007 10:27

I know just about everyone who knows of DBTS has thought of playing it with the . Well, it's possible. There's several videos on YouTube of mouse emulation, one of lightsaber emulation, and several of people playing other PC games.
You don't need to buy the console to do it--just the wiimote itself, which is available on several websites for around $40 USD. You will need an infrared dongle or you will have to .
Various how-tos on the whole process can be found on .
As of yet I haven't tested it myself, so I can't give you a personal account, or tell you how to make it work best with DBTS, but you can expect it as soon as I get my next paycheck.

I would just like to say, holy crap! That would be nice. I'll have to try to convince that friend of mine to buy a wii even harder now.

It's funny, I come here for the first visit in months, and reply to a thread that just started today. Almost makes it look like this is a busy place. :)

Well, I'm not too active here, although I'm checking the forum. Still waiting on my paycheck. Also on the delivery of Limb From Limb.
By the way, has anyone played Red Steel? It looks like the katana fighting in game might control the same as DBTS, but then again it might not.

The Wii is the first console since the SNES that i consider to buy. The whole wiimote concept is just cool. ^^ Playing DbtS with it would be AWESOME, however, an implementation through mouse-emulation will most likely be too inaccurate to get a good swordfighting-feel.

But if i buy the console, i won't rest until i find a good solution to get this running with DbtS. :D

Yeah, the SNES was the last one I bought. I'm thinking about buying the Wii and the PS3. The Wii looks interesting because of the controller, but the PS3 has much better hardware. I'm definitely going to wait for the price to drop on the PS3 tho.

As for mouse emulation being unrealistic, I could see that happening, but there's probably a way around it. I mean it's one thing if the software is written to make the Wii work like a mouse, but it's something else entirely if it's designed to make the mouse work like the Wii. Perhaps if the program prevents the mouse pointer from going into a corner, and makes it easier to reset to center or something. I'll have to take a look at it when I actually get a Wiimote.

Edit: Well, I got the chance to play with a friend's Wii over the weekend. It's pretty fun. Can't play too long or your arm gets sore tho. Also, it seems that most of the Wii games can't tell the difference between a swing from 50 degrees and a swing from 130, so most games will not have the amount of control that DBTS grants. However, the Wii's channel menu does have mouse emulation, and it is very flexible. I see no reason why DBTS shouldn't work.
All the same, I'm going to be putting this project off for a few months to focus on getting a new job. I hope someone goes through with this tho. It could lead to a resurgence in popularity for DBTS.

i have a special version of DBTS-LFL that uses the P5 Glove VR controller.

Also, there is a program called GlovePIE can remap the controls of the P5 Glove into any number of other controllers, including emulating the Wiimote. It can also do the reverse, emulating the P5 Glove.

So you could use the P5 version of DBTS along with GlovePIE to use a Wiimote to emulate the P5 Glove. Thereby allowing you to use the Wiimote to play DBTS.

You could also just use GlovePIE to emulate the mouse with the Wiimote, so you can just use the normal mouse DBTS version.

Here's GlovePIE if you wish to use the Wiimote to emulate Mouse right now

And i'll try to get my P5 version of DBTS to you guys asap.

I want to play DbtS with Wiimote's IR tracking as joystick, not as mouse. Anyways I have orderd Wiimote and Bluetooth dongle today.

The problem, at this moment, is I can't make DbtS handle the input of PPJoy Virtula Joystick with mouse. On control panel, I can see PVJ works with mouse as joystick, running PPJoyMouse.exe. But it never work on DbtS. When I hit GlanceCamera key, the view turns left bottom.

I have XP, and P5 version of LFL seems not to run on it, so there is only this way to play the game with absolute mode.

Can anybody make DbtS recognize the input of PVJ?

I could use mouse as joystick on DbtS, running PPJoy Virtual Joystick. There is a detail setting on game control option and it's neccesary to choose the device to be used on an old application. Then mouse works as joystick with relative control. I had misunderstood I could play it with absolute control somewhat. It's okay.

GlovePIE can emulate Wiimote IR tracking as Joystick input. This is good if it works.

It's GOOD. You can play DbtS with wiimote as joystick, using IR sensor as absolute control. All you need is:

- Wiimote (you don't need nunchaku for VSIM)
- Blutetooth dongle
- IR sensor bar
- PPJoy (you need to install PPJoy Virtual Joystick)
- GlovePIE (Joystick-Mouse.PIE)

I guess the small problem to use wiimote VSIM is IR sensor bar. To my experience, if you use wiimote within 30cm to the sensor bar, the length between the right IR and the left IR should be about 5cm. There is no sensor bar in shop like that and you have to make it so. I recomend you to make the width movable to adjust. It could be OK to use a webcam that has IR LEDs, perhaps.

Wiimote VSIM demands precise wrist control when you move wiimote on the edge or at the corner if you use it near the sensor bar. If wiimote can't see the IR LED, you lost control of the sword. Anyways I can swing the sword as I want to in 30 minutes, though I have to be pay attention to move it exactly.

One thing, some of you would dislike it's wrist control. Of course you can move your arm to control if you take some distance to the sensor bar. When the width of sensor bar is 30cm, you need to be atleast 1m away from it. I think arm control tires you out and wrist control is better.

I will upload the video on Youtube after I master the control.

[EDIT]
GlovePIE has many options to adjust output and I tweak it. Now it's so easy to control the sword like as I myself swing the sword. It's so fun to cut orc's head off everytime :)

Not bad. Looks like finally some VSIM use is made of the Wiimote.

It is too bad that my DbtS won't run currently, especially since i've got a Wii now.
But i want to get a new PC soon, most likely with an Intel processor this time. DbtS seems to have fewer problems on Intel machines. Let's keep the fingers crossed.

Yesterday I also bought nunchuk and have played DbtS with them. I made a GlovePIE script uses accelerometer, not IR, and it's better than IR wiimote VSIM. I will upload the video when I practice that well.

I've uploaded the video mentioned above. Now I prefer this to IR VSIM.
